I have always been an active supporter of greater transparency in politics, both in speaking out against attempts to exempt MPs from Freedom of Information legislation and through voting for the highest possible standards of openness and scrutiny in the recent debate in Parliament about MPs' expenses.

I was hugely disappointed by the outcome of the votes, which were a massive missed opportunity for MPs to restore some faith in the political system. I will continue to do everything I can to fight for the highest possible level of openness and scrutiny of expenses. This is, after all, public money and it is only right that every penny should be properly accounted for.

That is why I will be publishing my quarterly expenses in full on my website. This means that you will be able to see every penny I claim from the Parliamentary allowances and how it goes to help me serve local people in our area.
