Learning shop closures a 'hammer blow' to education in Cornwall

2.38.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th May 2008

Learning shop petition

Responding to news that Cornwall College is to close local Learning Shops, Julia said;

"I have been inundated by constituents who have found the Learning Shops valuable in helping them get to grips with rapidly changing technology.

"It's a real shame that local people will now lose that service, despite their excellent campaign.

"With funding priorities set by Government increasingly steering away from adult courses, this is a hammer blow to education in the County.

"We will be pressing Education Ministers on this at the next available opportunity. They clearly don't understand that improving Cornwall's economy depends on adult education of this kind."
