Cornwall's MPs celebrated St. Piran's Day in style with celebrations in Bodmin and London today.

Andrew George MP and Julia Goldsworthy MP and Lord Paul Tyler took time out of their busy Westminster schedules to enjoy pasties and saffron buns from Ann's Pasties on the Lizard on the House of Commons terrace. Mr George even gave some saffron buns to Gordon Brown at a meeting he had with the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, back in Bodmin, North Cornwall MP Dan Rogerson took part in three processions through the town with primary school children, secondary school children and youth organisations including the Scouts and Cadets. Mr Rogerson tabled a Commons motion recently calling for St Piran's Day to be made a public holiday in Cornwall and gave his constituency staff the day off.

Dan Rogerson said: "St. Piran's Day in Bodmin was bigger and better than ever before. The real stars were the town's young people who made the events such a success. I send my congratulations to all the towns and villages Cornwallwide who held their own celebrations and who are helping this date grow in importance.

Andrew George added: "It's great that we can bring a bit of Cornwall to London on the day of the Cornish Patron Saint. Recognition of Cornwall's national day is growing and I was also pleased to be able to present the Prime Minister with some saffron buns brought up that morning from Cornwall and to thank him for meeting my delegation and I on such an important day for Cornwall. He reassured me that he would be sharing the Cornish cuisine with his family."
