Julia Goldsworthy, MP for Falmouth and Camborne, has today been promoted to the role of Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, by new Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg.

Ms Goldsworthy, who first appointed to the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury in March 2006, will have responsibility for issues such as planning, local government, sustainable communities and affordable housing.

Nick Clegg's Shadow Cabinet reshuffle comes just two days after he was elected leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Commenting, Julia Goldsworthy MP said:

"I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed to this exciting role. I look forward to tackling the government on issues such as the unfair council tax, sustainable communities and affordable housing.

"This is a very exciting time for the Liberal Democrats and I am very pleased to be taking on responsibility for Communities and Local Government, an area which I am so passionate about and which is of such important to Cornwall.
