New crofty plans must tackle surface eyesore, says Julia4.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 2nd Nov 2007 Commenting on the unveiling of new plans to restart tin production at South Crofty Mine by the end of 2009, Lib Dem MP for Falmouth and Camborne, Julia Goldsworthy said: "Since South Crofty closed 10 years ago, the main site at Dudnance Lane has been an eyesore at a key gateway to the Camborne area. People in the town will be pleased at the prospect of new jobs for the area, but they also need to have confidence that the regeneration of the area will continue without delay. "For too long a lack of co-operation between government agencies and the mine owners has resulted in stalemate. This cannot be allowed to continue. I hope that the new company running the mine will work with all interested parties to ensure that the maximum benefit is achieved for the residents of Camborne. "I will be meeting with the Directors of Western Union Mine in the next few days to discuss their plans for the development of the mine, and how they expect this will impact on the regeneration of Camborne Pool and Redruth. Local people won't wait another 10 years for the regeneration that was promised to be delivered - and Western Union Mines as well the Regeneration Company must accept the role they have to play in this process.
