Commenting on the news that Cornwall will be hosting the World Lifesaving Championships in 2010, local MP Julia Goldsworthy, a member of the Rescue 2010 Bid Team, said:

"This is great news for Cornwall. Surf-Lifesaving is a really popular sport in our county and with the World's eyes on us in 2010, we have a fantastic opportunity to showcase all the talent that we have here.

"Whilst the event itself will be tremendously exciting and will attract many people to Cornwall, I am also hopeful that the Championships will leave a lasting legacy. The new facilities that will be built should benefit local people for years to come and ensure that Cornwall's Surf-Lifesavers continue to be among the best in the World."
