A DAY IN THE LIFE AS... A SUB POSTMASTER

As part of a week of events, involving all of Cornwall's Lib Dem MPs, Julia spent 'a day in the life' of a Sub-Postmaster

Local Liberal Democrat MP, Julia Goldsworthy has been leading the campaign against the closure of local post offices. As well as raising the issue in Parliament, she recently spent the day with local sub postmaster Dr Tye and his wife Hetty in Carharrack to see exactly what the job entails.

Commenting on the experience Ms Goldsworthy said,

"I am very grateful to Richard and Hetty for taking the time to show me the ropes. I was impressed with how much support there is for local post offices like the one in Carharrack which is at the heart of the local community. Local residents were very keen to impress on me how invaluable and important they consider these services to be.

"The current delay by government in announcing which 2,500 post offices they intend to consider closing has left residents with a feeling of uncertainty and the sub post masters trying to run a business with the threat of an axe hanging over it. Instead of withdrawing support for local Post Offices the government should be extending it in recognition of the fact that they are so crucial to the survival of so many rural communities."
