Local MP Julia Goldsworthy has braved the elements to join members of Flushing and Mylor Pilot Gig Club in their new boat "Penarrow".

On Saturday morning, despite the pouring rain, a crew including the MP launched the Penarrow from Flushing and took to the water for an exhilarating row up the Penryn River. The Penarrow was built last year specifically for the club and was funded by a grant which was received from the Foundation for Sports and the Arts.

A keen gig rower, usually for Helford River Pilot Gig Club, Ms Goldsworthy was delighted to be invited out with the club which has been going from strength to strength since it was formed in 2004.

Commenting Ms Goldsworthy said:

"The new boat is beautiful and it's been a privilege to row in her. It is an exciting time for Flushing and Mylor Pilot Gig Club. The growth of the club which has been facilitated by the purchase of the new gig, is something to be very proud of, it means the opportunity for more people, young and old, to get fit and active by getting involved in this fun and sociable sport.

"Congratulations Flushing and Mylor and good luck for the coming season!"
