MP Visits Local School to Find Out About an Exciting Creativity Project12.03.39pm GMT Mon 4th Dec 2006
Julia Goldsworthy MP visited Camborne Community College on Friday to talk to staff and pupils about the innovative Creative Partnerships Programme. The Creative Partnerships programme focuses on the most deprived areas in Britain. At the heart of the programme is the fostering of relationships between schools and those who work in the creative industries, from artists and dancers to chefs and biologists. The aim is to bring a fresh approach to education into the classroom. As a result, the pupils at Camborne Science and Community College have been enjoying some exciting opportunities at school! Commenting on the scheme Julia Goldsworthy said: "It is fascinating and thrilling to see how this initiative is inspiring pupils and teachers alike, channelling their energies, broadening their horizons and lifting their aspirations. What has been most impressive has been listening to students themselves speaking of the impact that these experiences have had on so many aspects of their lives." "With such vibrant creative industries in Cornwall, once again the county is leading the way in developing innovative approaches to education." TC Jefferson and Lindsey Hall from Creative Partnerships explain that: "By establishing partnerships between young people, teachers and practitioners, Creative Partnerships uses innovative practice to develop new approaches to learning. The driving force behind Creative Partnerships is to better prepare young people for a changing world." "Young people often describe how the work they do increases their confidence and aspirations. As one student said: "I feel 35% more confident!" Another pupil from Camborne commented that: "I used to be really quiet, now I'm more 'out there.'"
