REGENERATION PLANS ARE BROADLY WELCOME

Following the news that the South West Regional Development Agency has issued a compulsory purchase order on 147 acres of land in the heart of Pool, local MP Julia Goldsworthy has issued the following statement:

"Whilst I broadly welcome the news that there are now plans to develop this land, much of which is contaminated, I do have a few concerns which I wish to see addressed.

"Without this move by the RDA and English Partnerships this land would not be developed. I welcome this significant injection of cash into the area and support the plans to build more affordable housing and create many more jobs - bolstering the local economy."

"At this stage, although I have not yet had an opportunity to review the detailed plans, I understand that there are twenty residential properties involved and I am concerned about how these individuals will be affected by the compulsory purchase order. It is important that the South West RDA and English Partnerships work with all the parties involved, especially the local community, to ensure that these plans aren't unduly delayed and that any development is in the best interests of the area."

On South Crofty, Julia Goldsworthy MP said:

"With regards to the tin mine, it is not for me to judge whether it would be economically viable to re-open South Crofty. However, it is clear that the continuing delays and questions over the mine's future have delayed the development of the area for too long. It is important now that progress is made so that the regeneration of the site can begin."
