MP gets more than she bargains for at Young People's manifesto launch

England's youngest MP, Julia Goldsworthy got more than she bargained for when she addressed an audience of aspiring young men and women at the launch of the new Young People's Manifesto at the Sands Resort Hotel, Newquay on Friday.

The MP for Falmouth and Camborne was there to lend her support to the newly re-launched Young People's Manifesto but ended up being cornered by the enthusiastic participants and coerced into a game of political speed dating. Questions put to the MP included, was she in favour of votes at 16 and what were here views on the Cornish Assembly. Perhaps most tricky of all, the MP was asked to explain the difference between a Chav, a Townie, an Emo and a Goth.

Commenting, Julia said:

"The speed dating was great fun. I am still not sure what an Emo is, but apparently there are lots in Plymouth. The conference had a very serious message however, and I was delighted to meet so many enthusiastic young people with so much to offer their communities.

"I am attending another Cornwall Youth Service meeting on Saturday when the results of the new Youth Parliament will be announced. I can hardly wait to meet the new MYPs so that we can get to work on a forging a positive agenda for young people in Cornwall."

The new manifesto covers subjects as diverse as anti racism issues, crime, jobs and opportunities, housing and the environment, and is designed to reflect the issues and concerns of young people living in a rural area like Cornwall.
